Not satisfied with his
success with the Monkees, bubblegum pop manufacturer Don Kirshner formed
this studio group
based on the comic books and animated television show of the same name
in the
late '60s. Hiring
an array of seasoned session musicians to support lead vocalists Ron Dante,
Jeff
Barry, and Ellie
Greenwich, the Archies managed to produce several hits in the late '60s
under the
direction of Jeff
Barry, including the massive hit single, "Sugar, Sugar." After a short
spark of
success, the group
promptly vanished, leaving only nostalgic memories.
